1. Who we are
Rebus Finance (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a Newcastle-based mortgage broking practice operated by David, an Authorised Credit Representative under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Credit Representative #462589). We respect your privacy and are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and our obligations as a credit representative.
2. What information we collect
To assess loan options, lodge applications and meet our regulatory obligations, we collect:
- Contact details, name, email, phone, postal address, date of birth
- Financial information, income, expenses, assets, liabilities, employment details
- Credit information, credit history, existing loans, conduct data (with your consent)
- Identification, driver licence, passport or Medicare card for AML/KYC purposes
- Property details, the property you are buying, selling or refinancing
- Sensitive information only where strictly necessary and only with your consent
If you only browse the website without contacting us, we do not collect personally identifying information about you. See Section 10 below for what we collect anonymously from our calculators.
3. How we collect your information
We collect information directly from you via:
- Online enquiry and contact forms
- Phone calls, email and video meetings
- In-person broker meetings
- Documents you provide (payslips, bank statements, identification)
With your consent, we may also collect information from third parties including credit reporting bodies (Equifax, illion, Experian), lenders, accountants, and aggregator platforms used by our practice.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Assess your eligibility for credit and identify suitable loan products
- Prepare and submit loan applications on your behalf
- Meet our responsible lending and consumer protection obligations
- Comply with Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing laws
- Communicate with you about your application or our services
- Send you relevant updates, with your consent (you can opt out at any time)
5. How we share your information
We disclose your information only to those parties needed to deliver the service you have asked for, including:
- Lenders considered for your loan application
- Mortgage aggregators that we operate under
- Lenders Mortgage Insurance providers (where applicable)
- Credit reporting bodies
- Solicitors, conveyancers, accountants nominated by you
- Our regulators (ASIC, AFCA, the OAIC) where required by law
- Trusted IT and administration providers under strict confidentiality
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Storage and security
Your information is held in secure systems with the following protections:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit on all forms and pages
- Encrypted storage at rest in our broker management systems
- Role-based access, only authorised personnel can view your records
- Australian-hosted infrastructure for primary client data
- Regular backups with retention controls

7. The Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the NDB scheme. We have a documented response process to detect, assess and contain incidents.
8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
- Ask how we collected, used and disclosed your data

9. Complaints
If you believe we have handled your information in a way that does not comply with the Privacy Act, please contact us first and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response you can escalate to:

10. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and limited browser storage. For full details see our Cookie Policy. In summary:
- We use essential cookies to keep the site running and remember your form inputs.
- Our calculators send anonymous, bucketed usage data (e.g. “$60-100k income bracket”) to help David understand which tools are most useful. No exact figures, names, addresses or contact details are collected from calculator use.
- An anonymous random session ID is stored in your browser’s local storage to help us understand workflow patterns. You can clear this at any time by clearing site data.
11. International users
Our services are intended for Australian residents. If you are accessing the site from outside Australia, please be aware that your information will be processed in Australia under Australian law.
