1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, or analyse how the site is used. Modern websites also use “local storage” and “session storage” which work similarly. This policy covers all of those technologies.

2. Cookies and storage we use

Our site uses a small number of cookies and storage entries, grouped by purpose:

Essential

• WordPress session cookies, set only when an administrator logs in to update the site. Visitors do not receive these.
• Form anti-spam tokens, used briefly while submitting our contact form.

Functional

• Calculator default values, your last entered interest rate or term may persist between page loads using local storage so you do not have to re-enter it.

Analytics (anonymous)

• Anonymous session ID, a random identifier stored in your browser’s localStorage under the key rebus_anon_sid. It contains no personal information and is used only to understand which calculators are most useful and how visitors move between them. It cannot be linked back to you.
• Bucketed calculator usage, when you complete a calculation we record the bucket your inputs fall into (for example “$60-100k income”, “30-year term”), not the exact figures. No names, contact details or precise financial values are recorded.

Analytics (Google)

• Google Analytics 4, we use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Site Kit and the Google tag GT-TNLHWWGW together with Google Tag Manager container GTM-TRTLHHV4, to measure how visitors find and move through the site. It sets first-party cookies in your browser, principally _ga and _ga_<id>, which distinguish anonymous visitors and sessions and expire up to two years after your last visit. Aggregated statistics are reported to Google. Google Analytics does not store your full IP address, and our property is not linked to any Google Ads or advertising account. Visits by logged-in administrators are excluded from measurement.

Third-party

• Google Fonts, our fonts are loaded from Google’s font CDN (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). This causes Google to receive your IP address as part of the standard request.

3. What we do not use

We do not use:

• Meta Pixel, Google Ads, Google Signals or any advertising/retargeting trackers, our Google Analytics property is not linked to any advertising account
• Third-party marketing cookies that follow you to other sites
• Cookies that record exact financial values, names, contact details or location data

4. Controlling cookies

You can control cookies through your browser:

• Chrome, Settings, Privacy and security, Cookies and other site data
• Safari, Settings, Privacy
• Firefox, Settings, Privacy and Security
• Edge, Settings, Cookies and site permissions

You can also clear our local storage entry at any time by clearing site data for this domain. The site will continue to work, you will just receive a new anonymous session ID on your next visit.

5. Do Not Track and opting out

We do not run targeted advertising or retargeting, so no ad-targeting occurs regardless of your browser settings. Google Analytics does not currently act on “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” browser signals. To opt out of Google Analytics specifically, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or block or clear the _ga cookies for this site as described in Section 4. The site works normally either way.

6. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy if we change the cookies we use. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will also be summarised in the website footer for at least 30 days.
